Recycling tips
- Remove all lids from jars, bottles and plastic containers before putting containers in the recycling bin.
- Large lids e.g. ice cream, butter or margarine can be placed loose in the recycling bin.
- Place small, rigid plastic items inside a milk bottle (e.g. plastic lids and bread tags). Once full, put a lid on the bottle and place in the recycling bin.
- Empty containers. Items should be relatively free of food or product. No need to rinse.
- Place items loose in the recycling bin.
- Steel lids can be placed inside a steel can and the top squeezed shut to prevent it from falling out.
- Some soft plastic (dry and food-free) can be recycled at some metropolitan supermarkets such as Coles and Woolworths.
Soft plastics include; cling or film wrap, plastic bags, bread bags, magazine and newspaper wraps, food packaging and old 'reusable' shopping bags.

The recycling bin tells you what happens to its contents after it is collected from your kerb. You’ll see the processes involved in sorting and separating recyclables at the VISY Recycling Material Recovery Facility and find out the rules for what can and cannot go in this bin.
