Council provides funding to the West Torrens community through various grant programs.

West Torrens Grant Finder

West Torrens Grant Finder is a search tool that enables our local community to search for grants across Australia.

The City of West Torrens has partnered with Grant Guru to provide a free one-stop-shop for people searching for funding for programs and initiatives in both business and community sectors.

The West Torrens Grant Finder provides information about national, state and philanthropic grants that are available, or may be coming available, and covers a range of categories for both business and community.

The finder provides advice and tips for those seeking and applying for grants and people can register for alerts when new grants that meet their criteria come online. People can also save a favourites short list of grants, prioritise grants and keep track of closing dates.

Grant Guru is Australia's leading grant search engine and provides services to a large number of councils across the nation.

Environment Grants

Please be aware of the following changes to our Environment Grant Program:

  • To ensure equity for all applications, there will now be two (2) rounds of Environment Grant funding per financial year.
  • Round One will commence on 1 July and conclude on 30 September.
  • Round Two will commence on 1 January and conclude on 31 March.
  •  Applications received outside of the two application periods will not be accepted. Grant funding will be assessed at the end of each application period.

Our Environment Grants provide funds to eligible groups and organisations that support the aspirations outlined in Council's 'Towards 2030 Community Plan'.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for local groups to fund projects to improve the environment.

Projects may include initiatives to reduce waste, energy and water consumption, minimise pollution and increase urban greening through biodiversity.

Climate Resilient Living Rebate

The City of West Torrens Climate Resilient Living Rebate provides an opportunity for local residents to receive a rebate on the cost of a Home Energy Assessment, Window Treatments, Appliance Electrification, and E-bikes or E-cargo bikes.

Community Grants

Please be aware of the following changes to our Community Grant Program:

To ensure equity for all applications, there will now be two (2) rounds of Community Grant Funding per financial year.

Round One will commence on 1 July and conclude on 30 September.

Round Two will commence on 1 January and conclude on 31 March.

Applications received outside of the two application periods will not be accepted. Grant funding will be assessed at the end of the application period.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for local groups and organisations to fund community projects and initiatives that align with strategic priorities of Council's Community Plan 2023.

Projects may include community and sports events, equipment purchases and projects to encourage women to participate in sport and recreational activities.

Donations Program

Our Donations Program provides support for community organisations and groups working with people in need.

We may also be able to help in cases of urgent need or emergency situations not budgeted by an organisation.

Heritage Grants

The Heritage Grants provides financial assistance for applicants to undertake necessary repairs and/or restoration to local heritage listed properties and representative buildings.

Junior Development Grants

Our Junior Development Grants program is for people aged under 18 years to support the following activities:

  • sport and recreation
  • science and technology
  • history, arts and culture.

Applications are open throughout the year until funding is depleted.

When up to three members of the same organisation are attending the same event the maximum grant amount per person is:

  • $100 if activities are held within South Australia
  • $200 if activities are held interstate
  • $500 if activities are held overseas.

When more than three members of an organisation are attending the same event the amount available is to be equally shared between them:

  • $300 if activities are held in South Australia
  • $600 if activities are held interstate
  • $1,500 if activities are held overseas.

The Mendelson Scholarship program is an undergraduate scholarship scheme offered through the Max and Bette Mendelson Foundation.

Small Business Grants

Applications open from 1 July to 30 September.

Applications received outside of the two application periods will not be accepted. Grant funding will be assessed at the end of the application period.

The Small Business Grants comprise 2 categories, aimed at providing support to businesses within our city. The grants help our businesses support themselves, thereby generating resilience, growth and employment. The 2 funding streams available:

Capital works grants:

  • Up to $5,000 (excluding GST) on a matching dollar for dollar basis OR
  • Up to $2,500 (excluding GST) with no matching contribution.

Online and e-commerce grants:

  • Up to $2,500 (excluding GST) with no matching contribution.

Residential Rainwater Tank and Rain Garden Rebates

The City of West Torrens Residential Rainwater Tank and Rain Garden Rebates provide an opportunity for local residents to receive a rebate on the cost of a new rainwater tank, with a minimum tank capacity of 1,000 litres or a planter box rain garden.

Sponsorship Program

the Sponsorship Program Funding per financial year.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available to support community organisations and groups for staging events and activities for the benefit of the local community.

Tree Incentive Rebate

The Tree Incentive Rebate provides an opportunity for property owners (and tenants) to receive a rebate on the purchase and planting of a shady tree to enhance shading and cooling of the private realm in West Torrens.

Examples of trees that have been planted with the rebate include lemon, orange, avocado, ornamental pear, maple, and crepe myrtle.

The City of West Torrens Council offers a variety of rebates in line with the Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2022 - 2032, with an aim to support our residents in reducing the amount of waste sent to Landfill.

Women in Sports

Grants of up to $3,000 are available to support sporting clubs with projects, initiatives and equipment to encourage women and girls to participate in sport, physical activity and active recreation.
