AdaptWest Regional Adaptation Plan

The 'AdaptWest Climate Change Adaptation Plan' was developed collaboratively by the Cities of West Torrens, Port Adelaide Enfield and Charles Sturt to help us prepare for the impacts of climate change.

AdaptWest is about making sure our communities, environment, businesses and industries in the Western Adelaide region remain productive, connected and strong. It identifies the specific implications of climate change, providing strategies for residents, businesses, organisations and agencies of our western community so we can build resilience and respond positively to the present and future challenges of a changing climate.

AdaptWest provides a forward plan for the delivery of regional priorities to:

  • build strong and connected communities
  • prepare our businesses and industry to be aware and resilient
  • protect our coastal assets and environment
  • enhance open and green spaces to cool our environment
  • manage stormwater to protect and enhance where we live and work
  • increase the resiliency of transport and essential services.

The project is now in the implementation phase - 'AdaptWest in Action'.

The effects of climate change are already being realised throughout West Torrens. Across the western region it is predicted that by 2070 there will be more frequent and intense heatwaves, reduced rainfall and sea level rise.
