About the Youth Advisory Committee

Background

At its meeting on 12 December 2023, Council approved the establishment of a Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) to commence from May 2024.

The YAC provides a forum in which young people across West Torrens are provided with a meaningful strategic platform to share their views, develop recommendations, and provide advice to Council and work together to build strong partnerships across the organisation and within the wider community.

Current YAC Committee Members

At its meeting of 18 July 2023, Council resolved to appoint Mayor Michael Coxon as the Presiding Member of the YAC. The YAC is comprised of five Elected Members and eleven student representatives from six local high schools within the West Torrens area as follows:

Meetings

The City of West Torrens Youth Advisory Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every second month at 4pm in the Civic Centre, 165 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton.

The YAC meeting dates for 2024 are as follows:

  • Tuesday 28 May 2024
  • Tuesday 23 July 2024
  • Tuesday 24 September 2024
  • Tuesday 26 November 2024

The public and media are welcome at meetings, however there are general protocols for those wishing to observe the proceedings. Members of the gallery cannot take part in debate at meetings, do not need to stay for the entire meeting and may leave quietly at any time.
