Since its opening in 1958, the Western Youth Centre has been a cornerstone of the community, offering programs for individuals of all ages, from infants to seniors, and everyone in between. Over the years, the centre has undergone several expansions and renovations to accommodate growing needs, with an exciting redevelopment planned for the upcoming year.

To guide this transformation, council collaborated with current user groups at the Cowandilla site to create a comprehensive masterplan. This plan outlines a vision for the centre's upgrade, ensuring that development progresses in stages to minimise disruption and maintain support for the existing clubs, groups and the wider community.

Council and the Federal Government, through the Thriving Suburbs Program, have each committed funding of around $7.5million to bring this redevelopment to life.

Plans are currently being drafted, and a period of community consultation will be underway in coming months. On-site works are expected to begin in 2026.
