West Torrens Art Prize 2019
With the theme 'Migration: Arrivals and Departures', it was fitting that artist David Taylor won this year's $10,000 West Torrens Art Prize with his work 'Welcome to Adeline and Her Story: A View Through Adelaide Airport Lounge Window'.
David's work was one of more than 40 chosen to be a finalist in this year's prize. As the winner, this work will now be included with two previous winning works at the Council's Civic Centre.
The West Torrens Art Prize is now in its third year and aims to provide artists and budding artists with an opportunity to showcase their work and compete for prize money.
Ann Neagle was named our 2019 Emerging Artist with her work titled 'Underground', while Michelle Wegund 'Refugee', and Adam Zaknic '60 years a refugee' were named our Highly Commended Emerging Artists.
Hugh Adamson 'Adelaide bus stop', Mignon Clift 'Almost there' and Alli Symons 'Tethered' were Highly Commended for their efforts, while Furawara Ohgi 'Migration: arrival departure' was the Senior Secondary Prize winner and Mahlee Beard 'Migration: arrival departure' was the Highly Commended Senior Secondary Prize winner.
This year's People's Choice Award, sponsored by Adelaide Airport Limited, went to Christopher Meadows with his painting 'Backyard Welcome'.
