Australia Day Awards 2024

Each year the City of West Torrens presents a number of awards at an Australia Day ceremony. These awards recognise voluntary efforts and positive contributions made by individuals and groups in the local community.

The two catergories of awards are the Australia Day Council of SA Awards and the City of West Torrens Australia Day Awards.

This year Council welcomed as its Australia Day Ambassador, Superintendent Anthony Fioravanti who assisted Mayor Coxon with the presentation of Citizenship certificates to all of our new citizens and Australia Day Awards to the deserving recipients.

Citizen of the Year 2024
Brenton Gill

Considered to be a truly caring person who steps up to help others when needed, Brenton Gill is the 2024 Citizen of the Year.

Community Event of the Year 2024
The Good Immigrant

The Good Immigrant received the 2023 Event of the Year for highlighting the issue of racism and discrimination among migrant communities.

Civic Award 2024
Peter Sotiropoulos

Civic Awards are presented to people who have given outstanding service to, or been a benefactor to, West Torrens.

Hotel Royal, Torrensville - Peter Hurley AO

Owned and operated by the Hurley family, the Hotel Royal has been the 'go to' hotel in Torrensville for locals and visitors since it opened in 1979.

With more than 450 members, this not-for-profit organisation has been a highly valuable community group for more than 58 years.
