Citizen of the Year 2024
Brenton Gill
Brenton Gill has been a Justice of the Peace for more than 55 years, is a regular volunteer JP at the Hamra Centre Library and provides JP assistance to people who are housebound, in hospital or in a nursing facility.
At 93 years of age, he is an active member of the Royal Association of Justices South Australia and dedicates many hours to helping those new to the service by being a mentor, in particular to those who are migrants.
His career was in the public service, where he spent 30 years as Master's Clerk in the Supreme Court. It was during his career that he was nominated to be appointed as a Justice of the Peace; a position he has held since 1967.
In addition to volunteering his time with the City of West Torrens, he also volunteers at Flinders University and is a life member of the Holdfast and Districts Justices Group, which was formed in 2003.
When not volunteering as a JP, he is a member of the West Torrens Historical Society and was previously the Area Coordinator of the Novar Gardens Neighbourhood Watch for 10 years.
He is a respected and valuable member of the Royal Association of Justices South Australia and is willing to help others and pass on his wealth of knowledge to others.
Brenton is considered to be a truly caring person who steps up to help others when needed.
