Owned and operated by the Hurley family, the Hotel Royal has been the 'go to' hotel in Torrensville for locals and visitors since it opened in 1979.

Considered as a 'forthright and visionary leader', Peter Hurley AO started his working life as a school teacher before working his way into a country pub, the Wudinna Hotel, in 1975. Today his family has 11 hotels and as part of Peter's and his wife's Jenny's commitment to the community, created 'Hotel Care' in 1996 which, over the years, has donated $18 million in grants to community organisations, charities and sporting clubs.

Peter is a former president of the Australian Hotels Association, both in SA and nationally, and was the first South Australian to receive the AHA's national highest honour, the Peter Burnett Medal. This medal recognises not only an individual's contribution to the hotel industry, but also their operational and philanthropic work.

The Hurley's recently undertook significant renovations of the hotel with the vision to provide employment opportunities and more appealing amenities to visitors.
