In August 2021, Afghanistan was hit with a humanitarian crisis that threatened the lives and safety of hundreds of thousands of residents and the government collapsed.

In Australia, Afghani communities, governments and the wider community at large rallied together to support those in crisis.

In Torrensville, Zelmai Ayubi and his daughter, owners of Parwana Afghan Kitchen, organised several fundraising dinners to help galvanise support for those remaining in Afghanistan. Their efforts raised $200,000 to provide emergency care and relief, with funds being donated to three Australian-registered charities which provide on-the-ground support to residents of Afghanistan.
