Community Event of the Year 2019
St George Festival
Presented to a person/group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the past year.
Designed to provide the local community with a ‘true’ Greek experience, the St George Festival at Mile End in April 2018 was the second in consecutive years and drew more than 6,000 people to the event.
Organised by the Greek Orthodox Community and Parish of St George Thebarton and Western Suburbs, the event featured stalls, food, music, dancers and singers and comments received by the Parish following the event reflected that an event such as this is ‘essential’.
Many members of the Parish volunteered their time to stage this event, as did St George College and the Women’s Auxiliary.
Over the years many hundreds of Greek families have made suburbs such as Mile End, Thebarton, Richmond, Cowandilla and Torrensville their home and the Greek Festival is just one successful way that brings communities together.
