Citizens who have made a noteworthy contribution during the previous year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.

For Joan Roberts, volunteering is a way of life. She was nominated for her tireless work with Serene Residential Care Services, where she volunteers every day, often for 12 hours a day.

Joan has been volunteering with Serene since late 1999 when her late mother was a resident. Her role sees her support staff and management with the various day-to-day activities at the facility including organising entertainment, happy hours, singing and exercises. Described as a lady who is great to have around, Joan also organises fundraising for Serene with all proceeds being used for lifestyle activities for residents.
