The Building Fire Safety Committee inspects buildings within the Council area to determine whether the fire safety of the building is adequate.

The Committee's focus is on inspecting buildings where members of the public stay or gather, for example Aged Care facilities, hotels and sporting clubrooms.

If the Building Fire Safety Committee considers that the fire safety of a building is inadequate, it can issue a notice under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 in order to have the problem rectified.

The West Torrens Building Fire Safety Committee comprises:

  • City of West Torrens Manager City Development
  • Independent Building Surveyor
  • Independent Fire Safety Expert
  • South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service Representative.

The establishment of a Building Fire Safety Committee is required under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
